Frequently Asked Questions
What happens after I book my speech?
After booking you immediately receive an order confirmation then a separate email from me same day with a few questions to get started. Be sure to check your SPAM folder. This is a fast, easy process for you to get a funny, warm, killer original speech.
What information do you need to write the speech?
I’ve used The Nail Your Speech Process for more than 20 years to gather a combination of facts, feelings and experiences. First you’ll answer a few simple but thought-provoking questions. Then I’ll call you to go deeper on some of the information. I also want to get to know you and your values, character, personality and sense of humor—all of which factor heavily into the voice and personality of your speech.
What types of speeches do you write?
All of them—father/mother of the bride and groom, maid of honor, bar/bat mitzvah, birthday, best man, bride, groomsman, bridesmaid and officiant. Each speech is different but I use the same meticulous research process to uncover and organize your thoughts, feelings and experiences. That means a speech 100% aligned with your values, personality and sense of humor. This is a speech only one person in the world can deliver—you.
Is our work together confidential?
Yes. You're in complete control. Some clients mention our work together to others, some don't. It's up to you. Regardless, I'm always working behind the scenes to help you nail your speech.
Where are you based?
I'm completely digital and work with clients around the world. My home base is Chicago. I'm easy to reach day and night through email or telephone. And I promptly return emails and messages.
Do I really need this? It probably won't work for me anyway.
This is a highly personalized service that will ensure your speech is the best speech of the event. If you're struggling with what to say or are an inexperienced speaker, this is for you. You don't have to continue wrestling with this alone or resort to using the same dull, generic lines and phony B.S. off Google you hear at every wedding or other event.
I've written speeches and coached thousands of speakers at all age and experience levels for more than 20 years. This process will work for you, too.
Giving a wedding, bar mitzvah or other speech is, for most of us, a once-in-a-lifetime honor. I will help make sure it’s one of the best experiences of your life.
What's your background?
After earning a B.A. in communication studies and an M.A. in journalism on scholarship, I began my career in marketing agencies creating strategy and writing ads, films, speeches, books, websites and other materials for Fortune 500 companies and global nonprofits.
CEOs and other executives at client companies would often ask me to write a wedding, eulogy or other speech. These execs were also typically nervous about delivering their speech.
And there is a strong emotional component to social speeches where, for example, a father is speaking to his daughter or a maid of honor is honoring her big sister.
I enjoy helping people who are under pressure, short of time or doubting their abilities nail their wedding and other social speeches.
A little more here. Among every other speech imaginable, I also write eulogies here.

Just a post-wedding update :-). On Saturday evening, I had the pleasure of giving the speech as the last speaker in front of a packed crowd at the reception, and I must say, WOW! I've never felt as confident and prepared as I did that night, and you are to thank for that! This was indeed money well spent!
The speech took eight minutes as planned, and many individuals who approached me afterward mentioned its impact on them, including my brother and new sister-in-law. There was laughter and tears. The three speeches made ahead of me were all very thoughtful and appropriate for the occasion; however, the stories and context of my remarks that you wrote indisputably established the speech as the MAIN EVENT of the reception.
I am so thankful for having the foresight to seek a talented professional who knows how to tell stories and has an impactful way with words. You gave me all the tools necessary to succeed and gave my self-esteem a much-needed boost.
For future speeches, you are my most significant asset, and im sure that is the case for many others.
Thank you so much, Den; your services and process are phenomenal!”
I had a group of young women asked if they could hire me to speak on behalf of their dads on the occasion of their own weddings. I had a father remark that he now questions his speech, from years past, wondering if he pulled off communicating to his daughter what she needed to hear.
The best man and maid of honor also spoke and both acknowledge some trepidation following my delivery. My wife has been getting messages about the genuineness of the content. The official conducting the ceremony recognized me as the epitome of a father filled with love for his daughter. I could go on and you would simply nod your head knowingly as you've produced many masterpieces.
You are the man!”
My speech went without a hitch and the feedback I received was fantastic. I cried part way through (did not expect to react so strongly when I saw Julie welling up), got a lot of laughs, but most importantly, everyone could clearly see Julie and Carter through the stories I shared. I had someone record the speech, and will share that with you, but wanted to thank you again. I feel like I was able to effectively communicate the importance of Julie presence in my life, and that was the best gift I could give her.
THANK YOU!”
Thank you so much and I will be in touch when our other daughter gets married next.
The best $750 I've spent in a long time. Thanks, again!”
I had at least 50 or more people tell me what a great speech it was. I can't thank you enough. You do know your craft. The mic drop was a big hit and my daughter loved the speech. I would highly recommend you to anyone.”
The maid of honor ended up giving her speech first and from that point on I knew I had it in the bag considering she started her speech by saying she didn't actually write one and was going to talk off the top of her head. It only went downhill from there. I was watching the crowd the whole time and I saw the moment the crowd lost interest in the speech due to rambling and improper planning.
I felt extremely embarrassed for the bride considering her maid of honor was her sister. Once it was my turn I did everything exactly how you told me to practice and every time I looked up I had the full attention of the crowd. It was quiet enough to hear a pin drop. The entire crowd followed me throughout the whole speech and laughed at funny parts. People I didn't even know were crying at the personal parts.
Once I finished almost every one stood up at clapped and some even whistled. I can't express how happy it made me feel that I was able to honor the bride and groom in the way they deserve by giving everyone an honest glimpse of how I felt about them.
There were a few more done after mine from both sides and honestly all of them were worse than the maid of honor!
After it was all over I had numerous people come up throughout the night and tell me it was the best speech they've ever heard. They even said John was extremely lucky to have such a great friend as me. Thank you for everything!”
The wedding speech couldn't have been better, perfect. Many, many compliments, the delivery and content was spot on.
All of the information you sent to me really gave me the knowledge, understanding and confidence to deliver the speech in a way that was effective and settled my nervousness.
I am really happy that I called and had a chance to work with you, very much appreciated.
I'm sure I'll be in touch again.”
You are world class and never could have managed to do this without you! Thanks again and will absolutely be in touch for future speeches!”
At the rehearsal dinner, which was outside, I spoke last after the groom's father and mother. No one else had anything prepared and they were not good. So I was so glad that I was prepared and didn't just "wing it."
The entire weekend was wonderful, and thanks once again for helping me be prepared for one of the biggest events in my daughter's life (and mine too)! Take care!”
The weekend was undeniably the best memories of my lifetime thus far! All went down so beautifully. Cannot thank you enough for ALL of your work and help. I felt like a pro and delivered same.
Can't wait for my next performance to call on you. You're in my book forever! And will recommend you to all.”
There were approximately 140 people at the reception... And no kidding, at least 40 of them made the point to come up to me and tell me my father daughter speech was the best I've ever heard... This is from people of all ages who have attended tons of weddings!
Not only was the content of the speech outstanding, but the time you spent coaching and preparing me really paid off with a totally relaxed, comfortable, and confident feeling during my entire speech.
I'll definitely be in touch with you when my two sons get married, because at their rehearsal dinners I can speak to them and share my feelings similar to the father daughter speech.
I can't begin to thank you enough and I look forward to working with you again!
Cheers!”
